While we’ve seen the M3 with a long roof, the spy photos of the 3 Series wagon are still being taken.
BMW enthusiasts who prefer things in a certain manner should not be concerned as the size of the grille will almost remain the same with the new facelift. The XXL kidneys have been adopted by the 4 Series Coupe in its simplest form. But the 3er has not. The 3er won’t be following that path. After multiple photos of the highly anticipated M3 Touring, the non-M wagon was spotted for the first time.
We don’t expect any major changes to the Life Cycle Impulse, judging by the thin camouflage. Only the bumpers will be slightly modified. The prototype partially conceals its headlights. They appear to be laser-type, judging from the blue accents in the cluster. We are getting the impression that these lights look sharper now that their daytime running light signature is different.
Looking back, BMW may be tweaking the LED graphics on the taillights, but the cluster appears to still have the same shape. The test vehicle is a lower version of the M Sport Package. It has what appears to be a camera or sensor mounted on the spoiler. The 3 Series Touring, like all Bavaria wagons, will have a separate rear glass opening in case you don’t wish to open the entire tailgate.
Our spy couldn’t get inside the cabin, but we have porotypes of the 3 Series Sedan with the dual-screen curved setup and iDrive 8. This makes sense, considering that even the 2022 2Series Active Tourer is the first BMW model to get rid of the rotary knob on the infotainment system.
The 3 Series LCI lineup will also be expanded. In addition to the M3 Touring, which we have already mentioned, there will also be a first ever electric variant. The sedan will be based on the long-wheelbase model sold in China, Thailand and other parts of the world.
BMW will unveil the refreshed 3er in early 2019, and it will be available for purchase in Europe starting in summer 2022, before it is brought to the United States. The EV model will be released alongside the regular model, or later. The ICE-powered 3 Series will still have the 3.0-liter gasoline engine and the diesel engine of the M340d.
