The driver is fine, don’t be alarmed. The Mustang is not so lucky.
The Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 pony car is the track-focused one. At least, until the GT500 comes with the optional Carbon Fiber Track Pack. If the driver isn’t familiar with how the coupe works on circuits, it won’t be able to do miracles. This video shows a GT350 colliding with the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
This wreck is one of the few that has occurred at Green Hell. This happens on the Brunnchen section, where drivers are often caught off guard by the steep, off-camber curve. The clip begins with a Renault Megane Trophy, and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution successfully completing the turn. The GT350 is then captured by the camera operator. However, things don’t work out so well for the Ford.
Understeer is evident as the driver seems to be going too fast into the corner. The wall is too close to the grass, so the Mustang’s front end crashes into it. The gravel ahead slows the vehicle and brings it to an abrupt halt.
Safety crews arrive and open the driver’s doors. The guy gets out. The helmet is on his head, but he looks stiff as he walks away from the car. The crash resulted in the deployment of the side airbag.
The wrecker will take the Mustang away. Here’s a look at the damage. Although the fender and wheel are damaged, the more serious issue is the damage to the suspension and brakes in that corner. This guy might be able to get his GT350 back on track if there isn’t any unseen damage. The Nordschleife is a better place to be next time.
