Naturally, SUV sales were very high.
Sales figures 2019 are emerging all the time. The most prevalent trend is that car buyers prefer high-riders to small cars.Subaru of America, Inc. has its full-year sales report for 2019. The BRZ was the most popular car. The co-developed sports coupe with Toyota saw a 39.1 per cent drop in sales, with 2,334 units being sold across the whole of 2019, compared with the 3,834 units sold in 2018.Subaru only sold 131 units of BRZ in December – a decrease of 62.5 percent compared to 349 units in December 2018.
The BRZ isn’t the only Subaru small car that saw a decline in crossovers and SUV sales. Both the Impreza, and WRX/STI saw a 13.1 percent drop, indicating the decline in demand for compact cars made by the Japanese marque. The Legacy saw a 12.6 percent drop in sales for 2019, year over year.
Subaru SUVs had a positive 2019 sales performance. The three-row Atcent saw a 126 per cent sales increase over 2018. The Ascent was only available in the U.S. during the summer 2018.
Other SUVs in this lineup saw sales increases as well. The Forester increased by 5 percent, while the Outback gained 1.3 percent. However, the Crosstek saw a 9.2 percent decline.
Despite decreasing demand for small cars in general, Subaru achieved a positive overall sales performance in 2019, with 700,117 units sold compared to 680,135 units in 2018. This is a 2.9% increase in sales year-over-year.
