The 2012 US Grand Prix could be good news to the son of an Irish ex-formula one driver.

The 2012 US Grand Prix could be good news to the son of an Irish ex-formula one driver.

Derek Daly, 57 years old, drove in the late 1970s and early 1980s for Williams and Tyrrell. He later became a US citizen when he switched to the CART series and settled in Indiana.

Conor Daly, a 19-year-old American-born son of Daly, is also well-known as a motor racing commentator on American television. Conor has raced in the Star Mazda open-wheeler Series.

Austin, Texas could give him the biggest boost in his career,” Daly stated to Austin American Statesman. This was in reference to the 2012 US grand prix.

They were visiting Austin to meet potential sponsors. The pair also discussed a seat in F1 feeder series GP3.

They also met Tavo Hellmund who is the promoter for the US GP.

“Austin will be a mecca for motorsports in North and South America.” Derek Daly added, “You’ve got the perfect platform.”

Conor was involved in the failed USF1 project last summer and admitted that he still wants F1.

He said, “It’s at the highest level of racing.” “That’s why we need an American on the top podium to represent our country.

Daly Jr. said that “American drivers don’t have much credibility in Europe.” But, to qualify for F1, one must be in Europe. It’s a huge change for me. It’s the right place for me to be and the best way to get there.”
