BMW M1 Coupe Allowedly Confirmed

The M1 was based on the Giugiaro-designed Turbo car. It was released in 1978, but it was not able to meet homologation requirements to compete racing. This was due to production delays, and consequently, poor sales. In 1979, BMW was able to enter the M1 in the Procar series.

Car magazine has created some computer renderings of the new M1 using the 1 Series Coupe spy photo. The M1 is expected to be released in coupe and convertible forms with the S54 3.2-liter In-Line 6 cylinder engine. It will replace the E46 M3’s E46 M3. The power output should be the same 343hp and 0-62 mph takes 5.2 seconds. Maximum speed is 175 mph.
