The four-cylinder engine is not the weakest in the lineup. It is more powerful than the V6 standard.
Chevrolet kept a surprise about the 2019 Silverado 150 until just before the pickup was released. Standard equipment on the LT and RST trims is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder. This is a bold decision that will cause a lot of confusion among truck enthusiasts, who are used to 6- and 8-cylinder powerplants.
Turbocharged four-cylinders produce 310 horsepower (231 Kilowatts) or 348 pound-feet (472 Newton meters), and are exclusively equipped with an eight-speed auto. The turbo mill produces a lot more power than the 4.3-liter V6 of 285 horsepower (213 kW), and 305 lbft (414 Nm), that is standard on the Work Truck and Custom trims.
Chevy expects that over half of Silverado purchasers will choose a V8. There are two options. There are now 17 modes of cylinder activation. The 5.3-liter produces 355 horsepower (265 kW) & 383 lb/ft (519 Nm), and is available with either a 6-speed or an 8-speed automatic. This feature is standard on the LT Trail Boss and LTZ models, as well as the range-topping High Country models. It can also be added to all trims.
The 6.2-liter V8 produces 420 horsepower (313 kW) as well as 460 lb/ft (624 Nm). The LTZ and High Country models come with the 10-speed automatic transmission.
The lineup will soon include a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six with a 10-speed auto transmission. Unfortunately, the specs are not yet available.
The 2019 Silverado was unveiled by Chevy earlier this year at Detroit’s 2018 North American International Auto Show. Engineers put a lot of emphasis on weight reduction by using aluminum and high-strength steel for the doors, tailgate, and hood. This work resulted in a significant weight loss of up to 450 lbs (204 kilograms), despite the fact that it was physically larger.
In the third quarter, the company will begin production of the V8 Silverado equipped with a crew cabin. In the fourth quarter, you will see other body styles such as the V6, turbo four-cylinder and other models. Pricing details are not yet available.
