These are more than we can draw.
You may have fond memories of the crazy cars you built as a child. The ones with rocket launchers, lasers, and supercharged engines that poked through the hood like an extra in a Mad Max movie. These drawings were often found on the backs of diner placements, covered with syrup and tossed in the trash. We were not all world-famous car designers. Artists, for that matter.
A group of London children were able to have their drawings immortalized by a professional illustrator and brought to life. GoCompare is a Wales-based auto insurance company that asked children to create their vision of the future car. It would be an understatement to say that the designs are amazing. It is always a pleasure to see the children’s wild imaginations.
There are many creative designs, such as this one by Paula, an 11-year old girl. The roof-mounted solar panel powers her hover car, which is made up of two floors. Her hover car is magnetic, and the roads in her world are also magnetic. You have a floating car when opposites attract. This is similar to how trains and rollercoasters work. You can see all entries here.
Some have rubber wheels, shark fins, and smooth metal that can change color. These designs are charming. The future of car design is open to interpretation as self-driving and electric cars become more common. One of these children might be a world-famous car designer for BMW or Volvo, Tesla, or another company that’s not even in existence right now. These kids will be able to treasure their memories for many years. To get through these long commutes, I will need a car with a rocket launcher/machine gun.
