2022 Alpina Gran Coupe - First Time -

No M4 Gran Coupe? Alpina has you covered.

Our spies confirmed that the new model will follow the trend of the Alpina B4 adding an additional set of doors to its next generation. Although this might look like a regular BMW four-door 4er, there are signs that we are dealing more than just a regular model.

The most noticeable change is located at the rear, where the disguised bumper houses a more sinister quad exhaust system. The license plate with the “OAL” designation referring to Alpina’s home in Buchloe is another clue. BMW’s new 4Series Gran Coupe was unveiled at the beginning June. This is a little too late to allow a prototype to be disguised.

The fact that spy shots and rumors strongly suggest that a B4 Gran Coupe may be on the horizon does not mean Alpina will forgo making a two-door version. This family-friendly model will replace the BMW M4 Gran Coupe, which the Bavarians don’t believe is necessary as it would overlap with BMW’s M3 Sedan.

A report by BimmerPost earlier this year stated that production will begin in March 2022. If the information is correct, Alpina may unveil the first ever B4 Gran Coupe in March 2022. According to the same source, it will be sold in Europe and will slot above the xDrive.

The new model will be able to produce 462 horsepower and 516 pounds-feet (706 Newton-meters) respectively. This is similar to the Alpina and its turbocharged straight-6 3.0-liter engine. The 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h), should take around 3.8 seconds, and the 0-124mph (0-200km/h), about 13.4 seconds. The B3 is flat out at 188 mph (353 km/h).

Alpina style changes will be subtle in typical Alpina fashion. The 20-inch signature wheels of the tuner are a given. Mildly reworked bumpers will also be included. However, the controversial grille design will likely be transferred from the donor car. A recalibrated 8-speed auto transmission will also be available. Upgraded brakes, electronically controlled limited slip differentials and fully adaptive dampers are likely to be on the agenda.

At the time of writing pricing details are not available. However, the Alpina B4 Gran Coupe will bridge the gap between two-door M440i xDrive models as well as the M444i xDrive models.
