It will replace the Envision.
As consumers seek more crossovers, car sales are declining while automakers struggle to keep up with demand. Three years ago, Buick imported the Envision form China to increase its SUV line-up. However, sales have not been stellar. Sales have been disappointing. In 2017, sales exceeded 40,000 for the first full year. However, sales declined by 25% to 30,000 in 2018, with sales likely to fall again for 2019. Buick hopes to reverse this decline by introducing the Enspire, which was spotted in testing for the first-time.
Spy photos reveal a camouflaged Buick crossover prototype. It has a tall nose, long hood and sleek design. The Enspire’s headlights are brighter than the Enspire concept, which was unveiled at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show. Unfortunately, there aren’t many details to the design. However, the Enspire appears to retain the wild wraparound rear lights bar. Buick may be coy with the funny taillight covers.
The E2 platform, which is currently the foundation of the Enspire, will be used by the new Enspire. Cadillac XT4 crossover. There are two engine options available: the Envision’s 2.5-liter four cylinder for the base trim and GM’s turbo 2.0 liter for the higher trims. The combination of both engines will be well-suited to the GM’s nine speed automatic gearbox. Buick presented the concept as an all electric crossover but such a powertrain is unlikely to be in production.
The Envision’s falling sales are a sign that the crossover market is in danger of becoming saturated. The market is saturated with crossover options. This means that automakers will need to be more competitive to attract those customers. Customers won’t settle on any crossover, which is evident by the fact that Envision hasn’t been a huge success. The car-buying process is still heavily influenced by the style, technology, features, and price. Buick’s Enspire could be the selling success it needs.
