Ford Work Solutions – First In–Dash Computer

Ford’s new Ford Work Solutions lineup was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show. This includes the first ever in-dash computer.

Ford showcased its latest technological offerings at the Chicago Auto Show, fresh off the success of the highly publicized SYNC program. Ford Work Solutions offers four options for mobile professionals, including an industry-first in-dash computer.

The computer was developed with Magneti Marelli, and powered by Microsoft Auto. It allows for high-speed internet access through the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network. Customers can print invoices, view inventories, and access documents stored on home or work computers from their job site. The system also includes Garmin navigation. The computer fits into the stock radio position and has a touch screen of 6.5 inches, 2 gigabytes built-in memory, an SD card slot and a USB port. A wireless keyboard, mouse, and stylus are all included.
Ford Work Solutions also offers Tool Link, which displays the location of any tagged equipment or tools in the vehicle. Crew Chief is a small fleet management tool that allows you to manage your vehicles efficiently using telematics. Crew Chief can keep detailed maintenance records and dispatch workers to the areas where they are most needed. You can also see current vehicle locations via GPS. Cable Lock, a security system designed to protect tools and equipment in pickup beds, is intended to deter thieves.
Ford Work Solutions will be available on the 2009 F-150, F Series Super Duty, E Series vans and the newly announced Transit Connect.
