Mercedes SLR MSO McLaren Edition Mercedes SLR will be difficult to sell for $11M

You can’t buy much for this price so why not get an SLR?

It is not unusual to see classic sports cars sell for more than $10 million. This is especially true if you take a look at the recent auction results from old Ferraris. But a luxury car dealer in Bischofswiesen (Bavaria), Germany wants this amount of money for something more modern. A 2007 Mercedes-Benz 722 Edition SLR 722 Edition is up for sale at nearly $11million (9,999.999 Euros). This one is unique because it is one of only 25 examples that has tuning by McLaren’s MSO customization division.

McLaren, the partner on this project, saw some room for improvement even though SLR production had ended in 2009. McLaren’s MSO branch purchased 25 cars and installed new suspension and steering components. The coupes received a new body kit that included a larger front bumper, a revised hood and a more aggressive rear diffuser. A bespoke interior was also provided by the firm. The supercharged 5.4-liter V8 was unaltered. This one with the 722 package produced 641 horsepower (478 megawatts).

According to the dealer this SLR was purchased from its original owner. Its exterior paint color is Antimon Grey and it has only 9,818 miles (15.800 kilometers). Unfortunately, the seller does not offer a photo of the vehicle. To view the car, you will need to make an appointment.

The MSO-tuned SLRs can be very rare, but $11million seems high for what amounts only to minor mechanical tweaks and a new kit. The SLR is in an odd place on the market. It’s too young to be considered a classic, but too old for hypercars. A McLaren P1 vehicle, for example, would be less expensive and offer better performance. The buyer must want the rarest SLR, even though the standard models can be found online for as low as $500,000 online.
