2019 Acura RDX – Production Form

The prototype was beautiful – the production model will not lose much styling.

The all-new Acura RX was on display at the Detroit Auto Show. At least, we saw a prototype. New spy photos of the SUV testing on public roads in camouflage show it ahead of its debut in a few months.

The production version looks very similar to the prototype, but retains many of the same styling cues. The front fascia features the same “diamond pennyon” grille as the rest of the lineup. It also has a large lower vent and unique design elements that extend to the corner accenting vents.

The original prototype’s headlights look almost identical. From concept to production, the same “jewel eye” styling is used with visible daytime LED accents. The RDX has the same sculpted appearance as the prototype. It features sharp character lines that run across the body, but are disguised by camouflage.

Although you won’t be able to see inside the RDX, expect the same dual analog gauges and three-spoke (and but-laden) steering wheels, as well as a unique center stack with a electronic shifter. This is similar to what we have seen on Acura’s TLX.

Although performance details are not yet confirmed, the RDX will feature Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, (SH-AWD), torque-vectoring rear differential. It will also come with a variety of driving modes including Sport+, Comfort, Sport, Sport and Sport. Each mode will be paired with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Acura has not yet revealed how many horsepower it will produce. However, the RDX’s 3.5-liter V6 produced 279 horsepower (208 kilowatts), and 252 poundfeet (341 Newton meters) of torque.

The new RDX should arrive in a matter of months. It is expected that the SUV will go on sale this summer, as a model for 2019.
