Watch Luxury SUVs and Rugged Race up to Snowy Hill

Who said that expensive SUVs were only for asphalt?

The SUVs of today, and particularly the premium high-riding models, are often criticised for being primarily designed for off-road use. We’ve seen some impressive offroad maneuvers made with some of these SUVs. It is quite different to ask if someone is purchasing a luxury SUV to be driven in the mud.

You can’t ignore the efforts of thousands of engineers and millions in investments and claim that these vehicles are incapable. Are you still skeptical? For real-world demonstrations, check out the videos at the top and below.

We aren’t trying to say that these machines are serious capable offroad monsters. But it is impressive to see a car accelerate from a standing stop to 62 MPH (0-100 km/h) while climbing a snowy hill in just five to six seconds. You can’t blame drivers if not all attempts are successful.

The first video focuses mainly upon the Mercedes-Benz G-Class in a G63-AMG guise, which is competing against an Audi Q7 and Land Rover Range Rover, Land Rover Range Rover Range Rover, Toyota Prado 150 and Porsche Cayenne. We also briefly see an older Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Utility Vehicle, but it’s clearly more rugged and hardy than the rest.

Funny thing is, there’s also an SUV modified by Great Wall H5 and a stock Chevrolet Niva that put their more expensive counterparts to shame. Are you still wondering what all the drama is about? Russia is the only place where a $100,000 SUV can be parked in sticky mud 20 inches deep.
