New 2023 Subaru Outback Gets More Advanced Tech

The Outback’s nose gets a new look.

New York International Auto Show: The new 2023 Subaru Outback gets a fresh face and features new technology. This fall, the updated model will be available for purchase. Pricing information will be available closer the launch.

All Outback Except for the Wilderness trims, all models have a new front end. The lower fascia has been updated with a pair circular foglights as well as an inlet to allow horizontal slats. The grille has the same shape, but a prominent mesh pattern in its middle. The bottom of the new headlights has a sharp prong.

Subaru also modifies the fender-cladding to enhance their shape behind the wheels. According to the automaker, the new design of these pieces provides more protection for the body.

Subaru EyeSight driver assistance tech is available to all 2023 Outbacks. The updated software and the camera have a wider field-of-view. Blind-spot detection systems are available on models. They provide automatic emergency steering, which works in conjunction with pre-collision brake to avoid collisions at speeds below 50 miles an hour.

The Touring trim, which is the most expensive trim, also gains an EyeSight mono camera and dual cameras. This tech allows for faster detection of pedestrians or bicycles at intersections.

The 2023 Outback will continue to offer an 11.6 inch infotainment screen. It also gains standard wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The 2023 Outback’s powertrain range doesn’t change. The 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder produces 182 horsepower at 5,800 RPM and 176 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 RPM. A 2.4-liter turbocharged mill produces 260 horsepower at 5,600 RPM and 277 lb.ft. at 2,00 RPM. The only available gearbox is a CVT.

The 2023 Outback’s Onyx grade is now available with the 2.5-liter flat-four naturally aspirated engine. This is in addition to the previous turbocharged 2.4-liter powerplant. The model gets a standard power moonroof and new black window molding, as well as black 18-inch wheels.

Standard cargo area tray is included with the Wilderness.

Limited trim levels get a 12-way power driver’s seat with two-position memory. This replaces the 10-way adjustment. The heated steering wheel is now available with 360-degree warming instead of just a portion.

The Touring trim’s top-spec trim gets new Nappa leather in black with contrast tan stitching. The Touring trim also receives a digital rearview camera with auto-dimming, and a compass.
