Senna’s name is not for every car.
McLaren presented its new hypercar as a successor to its P1. It was given a striking name, Senna. McLaren named the car after Ayrton Senna, a famous Formula One driver who tragically died during a race in 1994. Although Senna did not spend his entire racing career with McLaren from 1988 to 1993, he was there between 1988 and 1993. Senna won three Formula One World Championships during that period. It was not an easy decision to have his name on the top-tier performance car of the brand. The designers and engineers explain why Senna is used in a video.
McLaren’s engineering director Dan Parry-Williams stated that “His values, his drive, determination and his pursuit for excellence influenced both his life and the way we do car in McLaren.”
Marcus Waite, chief engineer, stated that “Ayrton represented that kind of obsessiveness with detail, that desire for speed,”
Richard Farquhar (powertrain and vehicle engineering director), said that Farquhar’s “focus, his unwavering determination, to go above the limit, that in themselves then becomes an inspiration.” “He was determined to do his best to succeed in his sport.”
It is a lovely video, as engineers and designers discuss Senna’s contribution to the naming process and his legacy.
The McLaren Senna is a masterpiece in every way. The McLaren Senna was unveiled earlier in the year. It has a unique design that isn’t meant to be the most visually appealing car in the paddock. The Senna’s design was created to be the fastest and most agile car at the track. The biturbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 generates 789 horsepower and 590 pounds-feet torque. The incredible 1,765-pound Downforce is due to all the wild wings, flaps and wings. T
Will the McLaren Senne be McLaren’s best-selling performance car? Will the automaker change the name? We don’t know. This is as close as McLaren can make an hypercar right now. The Senna name is fitting.
