However, it will be a long wait for US customers.
Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric vehicle range. The German automaker has launched seven electric models under the EQ brand in the past two years. The EQC was the first model, which was introduced in 2018 and is now available as a 2019 model.
The EQC was followed in 2020 by the EQV. The EV launches took place in 2021, however. The EQA and EQB were introduced in the last ten month. We also saw the EQS and EQE. The EQG concept was first shown in September. Production of this model is expected to begin in 2022.
However, Mercedes-Benz’s push for electric vehicles is not as strong in the US. The EQS is the only electric model that’s available, and it only recently made its debut in Australia. This is despite the fact the EQC has been around for longer. The good news is that the electric crossover will eventually arrive in the US. The launch is scheduled for 2025.
Automotive News interviewed Dimitris Pesillakis, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. According to the report, the US should not expect the current-generation EQC model to be available. It will instead be the second-generation model. The new EQC will not use an adaptable platform from a previous model. Instead of a modified ICE chassis, the 2025 model will have a dedicated EV architecture.
This model will be very important for Mercedes-Benz USA. The GLC is the country’s second-best-selling car, so it makes sense that it will be the driving force behind the brand’s electric vehicle push. The company will soon offer an alternative for those who prefer executive sedans with electric power.
Mercedes-Benz will release an electrified C-Class around the same time as the second-generation EQC. It won’t likely be called the EQC, as the crossover already calls it that. The company will have at least four pure EVs for US customers by the middle decade, as the EQC was confirmed in North America.
