Volvo looks to the future.
Modern Volvo cars have been designed to be better over time, thanks to their connected software. Volvo will soon roll out its first over the air update (OTA), to eligible Volvo cars later in this week. Volvo owners in the United States will be notified via their infotainment screens that an update is available for downloading. Volvo is taking a major step forward with this initiative. It also demonstrates their intention to provide over-the-air updates for future vehicles.
Volvo’s first ever over-the-air update is coming to the XC40 recharging , as well as the 2022 XC60 and 2022 XC60 Recharge , as well as the 2022 XC60 Polestar Engineered with Google built in. Volvo calls this version 1.7 of its software update. It includes many interesting features. This update contains bug fixes, new infotainment software and Sirus XM radio capabilities. This sounds great, but Volvo EV owners get the best.
Volvo stated that the update will increase the range of EVs through a range update and an update to the propulsion system. Volvo didn’t give exact figures, but it is great to see a company like Volvo trying to improve its EVs through systems such as over-the-air upgrades.
Tesla is the pioneer of over-the-air updates. Tesla has been updating their cars with over the air updates for nearly a decade. The first update hit cars in September 2012. This important process will keep legacy automakers relevant and their owners happy. We are looking forward to Volvo’s future over-the-air updates.
