There are some differences in the concept SUV and this test car.
Jeep presented its Grand Wagoneer concept SUV just over a month ago to the world. This Jeep redesign will be the luxury SUV flagship. The name has been missing since the early 1990s. We now have a better look at the model as it enters production.
These spy photos show a test car with a simple camouflage cover on its large body. The heavy camo coverings that used to obscure the SUV’s face are gone. We can now clearly see the strong resemblance between the concept and the test vehicle without them. It’s perfect from the side. The placement of the lower LED driving lights and narrow grille are exactly as the concept.
It’s and not a carbon-copy. The grille’s lower edges are not as sharply angled. Instead, they adopt a conservative approach to Jeep’s seven bar grille. Also, the lower intake appears to be one-piece rather than the two-piece design shown in the concept. Although the headlights are not as narrow, they look very similar to what was seen in September.
We can see the profile from the side. It matches the concept down to the rearmost window. Although the side mirrors are slightly larger on the test vehicle, we still see the square wheel arches. Although the photos don’t show the rear as well, the concept’s narrow taillights are almost identical. Although the trapezoid cutout to accommodate the license plate is the same, the camo wrap blocks us from seeing details in the hatch and lower fascia.
It’s not clear if the photos are of a Grand Wagoneer, or a lower-spec Wagoneer. It will be Jeep’s long-awaited entry into the large three row SUV market. In Grand Wagoneer trim, it will compete against the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Suburban.
The production of the new Wagoneer will begin sometime in 2021. It should be available for sale for the model year 2022. Check out the Grand Wagoneer as well as all the other new cars on our list of future vehicles.
