Alfa Romeo Stelvio Junior Makes its debut with Retro Flair and Diesel Power
Remade as an SUV, the GT 1300 Junior…
The only way to spice up Alfa Romeo’s lineup is to play the special edition game. The SUV will be the next to get a limited-run version after the wild Giulia GTA / GTAm, and the more recent 6C Villa d’Este. The GT Junior is the successor to the GT 1300 Junior. The performance SUV pays homage to Alfa Romeo’s entry-level coupe, which was sold between 1965-1977. It is based on the Veloce trim. It doesn’t come with the 2.0-liter gasoline engine of 280 horsepower. Instead, the performance SUV uses the 2.2-liter diesel that produces 210 horsepower. Through an eight-speed automatic transmission, it sends 470 Newton meters (347 pound-feet), of torque to the four lightweight alloy 21-inch wheels.
Okay, so what’s the connection to the GT 1300 Junior. The Stelvio is sporting striking Ochre paint as a heritage colour, which gives a nod to the source. This lovely shade was previously used in a unique Giulia Quadrifoglio that was showcased at the Mille Miglia a few years back. Is there anything else? There are embroidered GT Junior logos on the headrests, and a silhouette depicting the classic sports car is located on the dashboard.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio GT Junior is priced at EUR72,750 in its home market Italy. This makes it EUR6,550 less expensive than the Veloce Diesel specification it’s based on. You get a premium color, some interior tweaks, and a long list standard equipment including an electric tailgate and front parking sensors as well as aluminum paddles or LED fog lights.
Alfa Romeo plans to unveil more significant innovations later in the decade. The Italian brand has pledged to release a new vehicle every year until 2026. Next year, a compact crossover with plug-in hybrid power will be placed below the Stelvio. A smaller, Polish-built Brennero subcompact cross-over is expected to arrive in 2025.
