Alpina officially becomes part of BMW

Alpina will continue to build BMW-based models until 2025.

Alpina, Alpina’s long-standing tuner, will be taken over by BMW. The financial details of the deal are not being disclosed by the companies. To be approved by the antitrust authorities, the agreement must still be finalized.

Alpina will continue to build modified BMW products until the end of 2025 as part of this agreement. Although the companies will not say what Alpina will do after that date, they will tell you that Alpina will cease producing vehicles at its Buchloe plant. The people who are going to lose their jobs will be offered a job at BMW, as suppliers or development partners.

The tuner’s Buchloe facility will continue to be the location for service, parts and accessories for legacy and current Alpina products. The development services for BMW will be expanded there.

Alpina will offer restorations of its classic vehicles. Alpina will also be distributing classic parts and accessories.

BMW announced the acquisition of Alpina, noting that it is becoming more difficult to operate a small-production business like Alpina due to increasing regulations regarding emissions and driver safety. The brand will remain in the market with this merger.

Pieter Nota, a member of the BMW Board of Management, explained that the acquisition of trademark rights will enable us to influence the long-term course of a brand with a rich history.

Alpina was founded in 1965 and initially focused on racing BMW models. Alpina eventually expanded to modify and sell the models of the automaker. Several of these vehicles were exported to the USA, including the Z8 Alpina or B7. According to the merger announcement, Alpina produced more than 2,000 vehicles in 2021.

Spy shots reveal that Alpina is currently updating its HTML3 and HTML7 offerings. The updated B8 Gran Coupe was also introduced with more customization options.
