North America will soon be able to purchase the three-row turbocharged SUV starting next year.
Subaru announced its intention to launch a seven-seat SUV that will compete with the new VW Atlas last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where it presented the Viziv-7 Concept. The company decided to rename the concept “Ascent” for the New York event to give a better preview of the production car’s namesake.
The cabin will see more changes than the concept. It has touch panels on its doors and a center console with sky background. The production model will likely include an elegant central display and air vents.
The SUV measures 198.8 inches in length, 78.3 inch wide and 72.4 inches high. It’s still half an inches longer than the Atlas, but its 117.3 inch wheelbase is 0.3 inches more than the Ascent. These dimensions are the concept, so it’s possible that there will be changes for the production car.
Subaru The new Ascent will be made at the company’s Lafayette, Indiana factory and available starting in 2018. The big SUV will be powered by an all-new Turbocharged Direct-Injection Boxer engine.
