This is a large amount of money for a car that’s 30 years old, but it’s not unreasonable.
The Honda CRX is a great choice for those of you who were young enough to be alive in the ’90s. This unique, but beloved compact sports car was a huge success during its lifetime. It sold over 66,000 units in 1986.
There are a variety of used Honda CRX models you can purchase today. One unit was reported to have sold for $40,000 via Bring A Trailer. This is quite a lot for a non-exotic Japanese vehicle that is 30 years old. Google searches show that used CRXs can be purchased for anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 depending on their condition.
The 1990 Honda CRX Si that was sold wasn’t as minty as the 10-mile unit in Portugal. The vehicle has 12,000 miles and there are paint marks on the right door and rear bumper. There is also a scratch on one wheel. However, it comes with a Carfax report that is clean and clear of any accidents, as well as a window sticker, manufacturer literature, service records and a Florida title.
Notable: The winning bidder for the Rio Red Honda CRX was the third owner. The first owner drove the car up until 2018, when the second owner bought it.
The engine of the classic sportscar has seen extensive work since its purchase in 2018. The seller replaced the timing belt and water pump, as well as the tensioner, thermostat, fuel injectors and spark plug wires. Original parts were included in this sale.
You can say what you like about the purchase, but it appears that the buyer was very happy with the purchase. His comment in the comments section on the Bring A Trailer listing:
You can hate on the auction, or you can think of me as foolish/reckless if it’s your thing. But the heart desires what it wants.
