2021 Audi E-Tron GT First Test

Audi will reveal its late answer to the Tesla Model S later in the year.

We are taking a break from our coverage at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show in order to share the first spy photos of the Audi E-Tron GT. The electric sedan was unveiled in November 2018 as a stunning concept. It is built on the J1 platform of the Porsche Taycan. Now, it has been seen testing in a camouflaged prototype in northern Europe. We were not surprised that the prototype was similar to the production model, although the concept car wasn’t too wild.

Despite the disguise, the E-Tron GT’s conventional door handles can be easily seen. The side profile of the E-Tron GT isn’t as sleek as the concept’s silhouette. The aero-optimized wheels look a little less sleek than the showcar’s, while the side mirrors appear a bit larger. These are minor changes, however. We are getting the impression that the road-going model will be faithful to the concept.

The test car appeared to have almost all the production parts, including the final headlights, taillights, and rear spoiler that we can actually see in action. The concept featured charging ports on both the front fenders. It could be the same with the final model considering that the Porsche Taycan’s sister model, E-Tron GT, has dual charging ports.

The 2018 concept car featured two electric motors, one for each axle, to produce a total output of 582 horsepower (434 Kilowatts), and was all-wheel-drive. It took approximately three-and-a-half seconds to reach 0-62 mph (0–100 km/h), and just over 12 seconds to complete 0-124mph (0–200 km/h). Then it reached an electronically controlled 149 mph (240 km/h).

The Audi E-Tron GT concept could cover more than 248 miles (400 km) using a 90-kWh battery pack. The 800-volt system allowed the battery to be charged to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. This gave the battery a range of over 198.8 miles (320 km).

Audi already plans to start production in 2020 and begin customer deliveries next year. The Tesla Model S fighter is expected to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. However, an online debut may take place a few days or even weeks earlier.

Pricing is still unknown, though it would be sensible for the Audi E-Tron GT not to go above the Taycan. Porsche’s EV 4S is the most affordable at $103,800. The Turbo comes in at $150,900, and the Turbo S at $185,000. Audi’s EV counterpart from Stuttgart will be available in a variety of trim levels. This could include hot RS and flavors .
