Comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld made a lot of money Friday night selling his Porsches . Even though he said that he didn’t buy the cars for profit, it was a lucrative Friday night. A 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, which sold for $5.3M, was the highest-grossing vehicle at the auction. It was estimated that Gooding & Company had valued it at $5M to $6M.
It wasn’t all good though. A 2000 Porsche Carrera GT prototype, which was expected to fetch $1.5M-$2.3M, didn’t sell. A 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder, which was thought to be the star of the event, failed to sell after it was listed at $3 million.
Gooding & Company claims that the cars up for auction were only 10% of Jerry Seinfeld’s collection. Apart from 16 Porsches there were two Volkswagens: a 1960 Beetle was sold for $121,000, which is a new Beetle auction record, and a 1964 Camper was auctioned at $99,000.
