Audi SA entered the niche market for coupes after its launch of twins A5 and S5 engines. For now, there are two engines. But more engines will be available in the future.
Audi South Africa has set prices for its new A5 and S5 models. Audi’s two-door coupes allow it to enter the two-door saloon market, where Mercedes-Benz and BMW have done well with their CLK coupes and 3 Series coupes. The A5 has the longest wheelbase, while the BMW has the longest. Volvo continues to try for this class with its S60 CC. Greg Levine, Divisional Head at Audi SA: “The A5’s sporty exterior, high-quality materials and driver engagement mark the start of a new era in Audi’s competitive segment.”
There are only two models that have three variants. The 3.2-litre Quattro is the first. It has a 195kW and 335Nm motor. A Tiptronic transmission allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds. 9.3-litres of fuel are used for 100 km. It costs R454,000/USD55,876.
The second model is R549,000/USD67,569 6-speed manual s5 powered by the 4.2-litre engine V8. It has a power output that is increased from the original mill’s 253kW and 260kW. At 440Nm, torque is greater than the RS 4’s. The V8 FSI motor is capable of propelling the S5 from a standstill to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds. The S5 Tiptronic version costs R562,000/USD69,169.
