At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Hyundai presented the replacement Tucson. The new ix35 features several model-firsts, and benefits from strong engines. The sales start in the early 2010s.
Hyundai will introduce the “i” naming scheme for its SUV/CUV segment with the new Hyundai ix35, which was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Tucson-replacement will now be known in all markets, except South Korea and North America, as the ix35.
The exterior styling has evolved from the traditional box-shaped off-road look to a more sleek design. This car offers more space and luxury amenities than ever before. Future Hyundai family products will have a new front grille. The new front grille is enhanced with an aggressive belt line, rear spoiler, and optional 225/55 R18 tires. Hyundai deserves praise for bringing the car to market so quickly after the ixonic form was unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.
The long, dual-panel panoramic sunroof will provide protection from the UV rays.
Depending on where you live, the ix35 can be equipped with one of a variety of engines. The petrols available are the Theta-II 2.0, which is rated at 120kW (163hp), and 197 Nm of torque. It produces 178g/km of C02 gases. Gamma 1.6 GTI delivers 103kW (140hp), peak torque of 167Nm and C02 emissions of 160g/km (4WD-MT) and 158g/km (2WD-MT) respectively.
The new R 2.0 diesel engine is 135kW and (184hp and 392Nm) and a lower version of 100kW (136hp and 320Nm). The U-II 1.7, which is also called diesel, will produce 85kW (115hp), and torque of 255Nm.
Standard equipment includes a 6-speed manual gearbox, while some models come with an in-house designed 6-speed automatic with Shiftronic. The suspension is MacPherson-strut-based at the front, while the rear uses multi-link.
Hyundai will start production by the end of this year, and sales in certain markets will begin during the first quarter 2010.
