Chevy Resurrects The Monza Nameplate

Chevy Resurrects The Monza Nameplate…in China.

The Chevrolet lineup doesn’t include the Monza as much as other cars such the Camaro and Corvette, though it was a mainstay in the Opel range up to 1986. The compact was on the market for five years (1975-1980), and it made enough of an impression to warrant a revival. It’s finally making a comeback after a 38-year absence.

The trio of new Chevy cars will be unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The new Monza will be the first of three new Chevy vehicles. We believe Chevy will make the Monza a Chinese-only vehicle. This is good news for American Monza fans.
Chevy Resurrects The Monza NameplateOne teaser image was released by the company showing the front bumper, which features a faux vent and an embedded “RS” badge in the grille. In a press release, Chevy promised details such as “a passionate driving experience” or “sporty genes” of the Chevrolet brand. However, it is not clear what powertrain options and trims are available. The Monza’s badge suggests that it will receive a lukewarm RS treatment, similar to other RS models such as the Cruze and Traverse. Do not expect turbocharged engines with high output. At least, not at this time.

This teaser isn’t the only evidence that the Monza is back. An image was posted by a spy photographer that appears to show the base Monza. Below is the embedded Facebook post

The unveiling of the Monza will bring more details. The Guangzhou Auto Show will open its doors on November 17, 2018.
