BMW has revealed the first details of its production-ready M3 CRT (Carbon Racing Technology) in what will be a lengthy teaser campaign.
The BMW M3 GTS Sedan Concept was previously revealed. This lightweight model is essentially a sedan version the M3 GTS Coupe which is the most extreme 3-Series-based factory vehicle of the current E92. The extra doors add a little weight to the vehicle. They weigh in at 90 kg (198 lbs) but are still lighter than the stock M3 sedan.
Carbon fiber roof, seats, and roof are responsible for the weight savings. The design tweaks include matching hood vents and blacked-out twin kidney grilles. Fender side blades are accented with red and a carbon-fiber luggage lid spoiler. Special rear seats, door sills, and door panels are decorated with carbon fiber and aluminium.\
The powerplant from the GTS Coupe will transfer to the M3CRT, although it is not yet officially announced. The engine is a 4.4-litre V8 that uses the same engine as the standard M3. Maximum power is 450 PS (331kW/ 444 bhp), an increase of 30PS (22kW/ 29.5bhp). The transmission is the 7 speed M dual clutch transmission (MDCT) with adaptable shift characteristics. The M3 CRT can go from 0 to 100 km/h within 4.4 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds quicker than the standard M3 sedan. Maximum speed is 290 km/h (180 MPH).
The same 19-inch aluminum wheels used in the GTS Coupe are used for the tire sizes. There are 245/35 tires at the front and 265/30s back. The front brake discs measure 378x32mm in the front, 380x28mm back, and are squeezed by six pistons.
It sounds great, right? The limited edition is only available to 67 BMW customers who are well connected. The price in Germany will be EUR 13.000,000.- exclusions. VAT. Keep dreaming, BMW fan boys.
