What If Porsche Made A Cayenne Coupe?

What If Porsche Made A Cayenne Coupe?

It might actually happen.

The Porsche model family was once primarily about the 911 and its many derivatives. But, the situation has dramatically changed since the advent of the SUV. The Boxster is often regarded as the brand’s savior during its difficult 1990s. However, the first-generation Cayenne was also an important driver of Porsche’s revival. The Macan is now outselling the 911 by a margin of three to one. With the launch of Cayenne, it seems like SUVs will soon be the bread and butter in sales.

Porsche is looking at the possibility of a Cayenne “Coupe” and will make a decision on the two later in the year. The company must determine if there is enough demand for both the Cayenne and the Macan to justify their efforts.

The next render shows the Porsche brand’s future. It features a Cayenne with an extremely sloped roofline that gives the SUV a coupe-like silhouette. Like all other SUV-coupe mashups the roof can have an effect on rear passenger headroom and trunk cargo capacity. But that’s a tradeoff people are willing to make when purchasing models like the Mercedes GLE Coupe or the BMW X6. The Cayenne Coupe, as it is with the coupe-ified SUVs above, would be more costly than the regular model. While it remains to be seen if the green light will be granted, we don’t think so.
