New-school technology combines old-school looks with modern-school technology.
Jensen International’s Range Rover Chieftain has a boxy exterior, but underneath lies something much more sinister than an off-road powertrain. This vehicle has enough power to conquer Mt. You can climb Everest with confidence. The engine is still in the CTS-V’s previous generation. That’s 6.2-liters supercharged V8 power generating 560 horsepower. Now, take my money. The engine is paired with a six speed automatic transmission that connects to a GM transfer box. The Chieftain is much more than a modern engine in a retro body. Land Rover Discovery’s third generation platform and a ladder frame chassis provide the Chieftain the ability to excel off-road. Rover engines are notoriously unreliable, which is why we have moved to modern underpinnings.
Jensen International says that the Rover-derived Buick engine is not without its problems. This pretty much sums it all, isn’t it? Jensen completely redesigned the interior of the low-budget interior. While the original interior was functional in design, the Chieftain’s has large swathes of leather. The dashboard features a bespoke switchgear, as well as a satellite navigation system. The Chieftain’s interior looks modern, aside from a few obvious details like the instrument cluster. Jensen International is a British company that has a long history of taking classic British cars and transforming them into modern-day treasures. This is a wonderful pairing that fixes many of the problems that plague older vehicles, while maintaining the classic styling. Jensen International’s Range Rover Chieftain may not be a number-matching specimen at auction, but it is still thrilling, especially with the supercharged LSA V8 underneath.
