The engine will first go out of commission on the XE and XF models.
Jaguar plans to get rid of its V6s.
Autocar reports that the British manufacturer will no longer offer the 3.0-liter V6 in its XE or XF models. Other models in the range may also be affected, including the XJ crossover and the F-Pace hybrid. The V6 F-Type, which many consider to be the best of the crop, will continue to survive.
This news is not surprising, even though it’s sad. Only two percent of domestic XF and E sales in the U.K. are V6s. The decision was also influenced by the ever tightening European emission regulations.
According to reports, the S version of the two sports sedans in the U.K. will be replaced with new 300 Sport models. The new models will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 296 horsepower, which is 84 more than the V6. An inline six, based on the turbo-four pout, is also in development.
The V6 is not the only option for Jaguar that’s faster than the V6. Jaguar Land Rover’s SVR performance subbrand has made the R badge obsolete.
After the unveiling of the Face SVR design director at SVO Wayne Burgess admitted that Jaguar doesn’t have enough space for both R- and SVR models. Burgess stated that there isn’t enough space in each model line for an R or an SVR. He spoke to Auto Express. “F-Type R is a competitor to F-Type SVR,” Burgess said.
Jaguar Land Rover has not yet commented on the possibility that it might drop the V6 engine.
