Acura ADX Trademark Hints at Upcoming New SUV

It could be electric or combustion-powered.

A trademark filing suggests a new model from Acura. The trademark ADX was registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It was discovered by Car and Driver and may indicate a new utility from the Japanese luxury brand. Although there isn’t much information on what to expect from the new SUV, there are two theories.

According to our source, Acura could give ADX to its all-electric crossover. It will use a platform that is shared with General Motors. The American automaker will also manufacture this electric vehicle, but it will have a unique Acura interior and design. It will look almost identical to some of GM’s upcoming EVs underneath the skin.

Acura could also receive a new SUV based upon the next-generation Honda CR-V, which the automaker is currently developing in North America. This could also mean that Honda may be trying to stop other automakers from using the ADX brand in the future. We haven’t heard any information supporting this theory. Side note: Honda’s GM-based electric SUV version will be called.

Acura will likely reveal the name of its electric SUV very soon. It will ride on GM’s Ultium architecture, and will launch in 2024 to be Acura’s first mass-produced electric vehicle. Japanese company will skip hybridization phase in favor of investing heavily in becoming an EV-focused marque. The automaker aims to have at least half its total sales be electric by 2030.

“We are going to eliminate hybrids completely. Our shift to BEV is very rapid. In a recent interview, Emile Korkor, assistant vice-president of Acura’s national sales, stated that this is our main focus.
