Bloomberg News reports that the Porsche 918 Spyder will become the most expensive car in the company’s history after interviewing two anonymous sources. The Porsche 918 Spyder will be sold at EUR500,000. This is EUR47,000 more than the Porsche Carrera GT which was produced between 2003 and 2006.
More than 2,000 people are in talks to buy the two-seater, despite the high price. Automaker stated that they wouldn’t approve the car unless 1,000 customers had made a deposit. The Carrera GT has never sold more than 1,500 units.
The hybrid 918 Spyder can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The hybrid 918 Spyder uses a V8 engine of 500 horsepower and an electric motor to reach speeds of 199 mph (320 km/h). Porsche claims the 918 Spyder consumes three liters of fuel for 100 km and produces 70 grams CO2 per mile.
The formal decision regarding the production of the car is expected to be made later in this year.
