It’s a battle between powertrains.
You’ll be disappointed to see that Audi doesn’t offer any other powertrains if you visit their website to create a new . After Volkswagen’s Dieselgate emissions scandal, the diesel option was removed from all models in the VW Group portfolio. The Fast Lane Car YouTube channel decided that a 2015 Q5 TCI would be compared to a new Q5 and in drag races.
Even though it is a fixed-model, the TDI still generates 240 horsepower and 428 pound feet of torque thanks to its turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 Diesel. It produces the most torque of all three. The Q5 produces the most power. The turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 produces 252 horsepower and 273 lbft of torque. Turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 gives the SQ5 354 horsepower and 369 lb/ft of torque.
The Q5 TDI versus the standard Q5 is the first race. The TDI has more power but it is 400 pounds heavier than the standard Q5. It weighs in at 4,400 pounds. The Q5 is a hefty 4,000-pounder. The TDI’s additional torque gives it a distinct advantage. It beat the Q5 off line and won the short drag race.
In the next race, the TDI will be up against the SQ5. The SQ5 is still in the lead, but the TDI’s additional torque is not enough. The SQ5 is the clear winner, crossing the finish line several cars ahead. Both cars come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
These videos are always fun to watch, even though they may not be very rigorous in their testing. Although it’s unclear what the race distance is, it does not appear to be a drag race of quarter-mile distance. It doesn’t matter. The hosts have fun and we see how the Audi Q5 has performed over the past few years. It also serves as a reminder of the Audi TDI cars it no longer sells in America.
