Opel GSI will be available in dealer showrooms by the end the year. It is expected to have a 2.0 liter turbocharged ecotec motor with approximately 190 PS (140 kW).
Opel will not be able to compete with the Golf R using a different version of the Astra OPC for some time. These spy shots show an Astra GSI which may fill the gap for Opel fans until then.
The GSI is shown here with a camouflaged bumper on the front. This tells us that the model will have a slightly different front fascia than the standard Astra – a more aggressive appearance according to our spy photographer. The GSI will have a dual exhaust system at the back, and a two-tone interior featuring sports seats. According to German car mag Motor und Sport, the GSI will have wider wheel arches.
The Astra OPC had a 2.0 liter turbocharged ecotec engine that produced 240 PS (177 kW), while the previous GSI was rated with 200 PS. The new GSI (second in the Astra pecking list) will be somewhere in between.
Opel Astra GSI is expected to make it to dealers showrooms by the end 2010.
