F1’s championship final will be held in Brazil next Sunday after Sebastian Vettel failed at the US grand prix.
Red Bull’s German driver increased his lead over Fernando Alonso, his Austin title rival. The gap is now 13 points. Only the 20th race in the season in Sao Paulo remains.
Vettel said, “It looks a bit better now,” “We now have another step in Brazil.”
Red Bull won its third consecutive constructors’ championship on Sunday. However, the team wasn’t really celebrating after Vettel was defeated to the flag by Lewis Hamilton.
After Narain Karthikeyan’s backmarking, Vettel was disappointed to have been passed in the DRS zone by McLaren’s Hamilton.
Christian Horner, team boss, said that Vettel was not at fault. Vettel had been furious on the radio afterwards.
Horner, British television Sky said that “It’s going be a busy Week ahead of us.”
Red Bull has the math in their favor, as even if Ferrari’s Alonso wins Interlagos next weekend, Vettel would still have to place fourth to be champion.
Alonso, who rose from seventh to third on the grid to the chequered flag on Sunday, isn’t giving up despite the rain forecast for Brazil.
Mario Andretti, F1 legend, told Alonso that he had been “brilliant all season” and that “you’re fighting until the end.”
It could also be an important factor. Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber died on Sunday after a failed alternator. However, Renault had unveiled a new specification this weekend.
Adrian Newey, Red Bull’s CEO, admitted that reliability is fragile. “Renault haven’t found a solution to this one.”
