Lamborghini released all details about its highly anticipated Aventador Roadster.
The Murcielago Roadster had a fabric roof which limited its top speed at 100 mph (160 km/h). Its successor, however, has a hardtop that can be removed manually in just “a few seconds” (weighing 6 kg (13 lbs). Carbon fiber roofs are made using Forged Composite technology by the company. This allows for a stronger material than titanium, but is lighter and more dense.
The Aventador Roadster’s V12 6.5-liter normally aspirated engine is at its heart. It features a stop/start system and cylinder deactivation. It takes three seconds to reach 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h), on the way to 217 mph (349 km/h).
The car’s rear legs had to be modified to accommodate the new roof. They also offer greater rollover protection and ventilation for the power unit.
Lamborghini engineers have created a powered rear windscreen. This can regulate airflow and reduce noise from the engine. The wind deflector is located on top of the front windshield and promises “almost complete calm” when the roof is removed.
The engine cover now has a “spinal columns” with two lines each of hexagonal windows. Meanwhile, the scissor door has a chamfered edge to allow for frameless windows. This gives the carbon fiber roof a tight finish.
The Roadster’s exclusive features include 20-inch and 21-inch (front/rear), alloys that reduce the vehicle’s weight by 10 kilograms (22 pounds), as well as a custom two-tone finish. These official photos show the car sporting an Azzuro Thetis paintjob. This is a throwback from the 1968 Miura Roadster’s paint.
The 2013 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster goes on sale next summer for a starting price 300,000 EUR (before taxes).
