uses both left and right hand drive
It is also unique.
Overland Expo West 2019, held in Northern Arizona, featured one of the most impressive collections of campers and off-road vehicles. One of the most exciting vehicles was the Mercedes Unimog camper. It boasted a luxurious living space and a powerful drivetrain.
The Unimog
Our friends from Fast Lane Offroad were present at the expo. They toured the Unimog firsthand and witnessed what an incredible vehicle it is. This 2005 Mercedes U500 Expedition Camper has a fitted camper attached to the back. It was purchased from a military surplus shop. Living quarters include a fold down deck, functional kitchen space, sleeping quarters and a bathroom. Modern amenities include a solar power grid, cellular signal booster and a diesel-powered hotwater heater.
Overlanding is dangerous:
The living area may be the most prominent, but the cockpit contains some of the most fascinating technology. Unimog has an advanced setup that allows both left and right-hand drive to be available. The transmission can be used as an automatic or manual model via an adjustable clutch system, according to the owner. The truck produces a remarkable 280 horsepower (208 Kilowatts) as well as a staggering 1,000 pound-feet (1,358 Nm) thanks to its diesel engine. This means the Unimog can be driven off-road with its extra weight.
Every Unimog camper that we review seems to be more impressive. This overlanding vehicle is an excellent example of this design, which was intuitive and built from scratch. Motor1.com will always be grateful for the Unimog, a badass offroad rig.
