Electric Hummer to be Future Off-Roader from GM

If you like the idea, be prepared to wait for the electric Hummer’s arrival – if ever.

According to insiders, General Motors is reportedly considering bringing back the Hummer brand to make rugged, off-road-oriented electric cars. The plan is still in flux and there is nothing that can be confirmed. The models won’t be available until Hummer makes EVs again, which would take a while.

Here’s the current take on a more modern Hummer.

According to Bloomberg insiders, the Hummer name is rugged enough to be a great marketing tool for electric SUVs. The marketers must be able to overcome the stigma attached to Hummer and gas-guzzling, ostentatious vehicles such as the and HTML2. General Motors would need to find a location to sell the new brand. According to Bloomberg the company does not necessarily want to have dedicated dealers as with the previous marque.

The future of the Hummer brand has not been confirmed, so it’s unclear if they will revive the Hummer brand. According to this report, the Hummers could share tech with GM’s upcoming electric pickup.

GM’s electric vehicle is not as close as the production. Mark Reuss, the company’s president, stated that they want their offering to be at a comparable price to existing pickups while still being able to tow as far without making drivers anxious about having to wait for a charge.

GM is rumored to have a more road-oriented hybrid crossover in development and it should be available for launch soon. Already, the automaker confirmed plans to build its next electric vehicle at Orion Factory. Orion currently assembles the Chevrolet Bolt.
