Today, the all-new 2016 Lexus RX was unveiled at the New York Auto Show.
The SUV is described as having a “bold and exciting new look” and has entered its fourth generation. Many styling cues are taken from the NX, a smaller luxury SUV. The large corporate spindle grille is flanked with LED headlights and fog lamps, as well as daytime running lights and daytime running light.
The new RX has a more sloped roofline, which gives it a slimmer profile. This is also evident in the teaser. For a more premium look, the rear end is sharper with wraparound L-shaped taillights that also feature LEDs. The dual exhaust system adds an extra dimension to the vehicle’s appearance.
The cabin of the 2016 RX features a 12.3-inch screen to display the infotainment system. Lexus also offers a color head up display for an additional fee. You will also find heated rear seats, a 60:40 power-folding 2nd row and a retractable power panoramic sunroof. A rear entertainment system with dual 11.6-inch screens is also available. It’s attached to the back of front seat headrests.
The new RX 350 will come with a 3.5-liter V6 motor that produces 300 bhp (224kW) and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Lexus also offers the RX 450h model, which combines a V6 engine 3.5-liter and an electric motor generator for a combined output of around 300 bhp (294 kW).
Lexus will offer an adaptive variable suspension (AVS), which electronically monitors and adjusts the shock absorber damping, steering and steering for optimal handling and ride comfort. Toyota’s premium marque claims that the system will reduce body roll in corners, particularly at higher speeds.
The F SPORT version is available for both engines. It features a more aggressive body and graphite 20 inch wheels. A custom F SPORT instrument cluster includes a TFT Multi-Information Display. The package also includes a sport steering wheel with perforated leather and exclusive trim pieces.
The 2016 Lexus RX F SPORT features an active stabilizer system that keeps the vehicle’s “body amazing flat through corners”. AVS-enhanced Sport+ mode is also available.
The fourth-gen Lexus RX sales should begin towards the end.
