Ferrari SF90 Stradale Battles Tesla Model S Plaid In 5 Drag Races

Can the hybrid supercar surpass the all-electric sedan in performance?

Although mainstream EVs are gradually becoming a reality, some automakers are making more progress than others. Ferrari continues to experiment with hybrids and will deliver the 986-horsepower (735 kilowatts) SF90 Stradale in 2019. The Model S Plaid is Tesla’s EV king. It has 1,020 horsepower (760 kW) and is ready to go. Which model is the most powerful for the quarter-mile?

DragTimes has released a new YouTube video that shows the vehicles in dissimilar situations competing in four drag races. Although the Tesla is slightly more powerful than the Ferrari, it is still significantly heavier due to its battery. They also deliver different power, adding drama to the event. Ferrari’s t winturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine is paired with an electric motor for incredible output figures.

Technically, the Ferrari wins the first two races. The Tesla jumped the light. Both cars jumped in the second race. However, the Tesla was the first to do so. The Ferrari got a near perfect start in the next race. However, the Tesla was just ahead of it, running a quarter-mile at 147.81 mph (237.88 km/h). The SF90 Stradale took 9.590 seconds to reach 147.09 mph (236.72 kph).

The Tesla got the best start in the fourth race, and led all the way to its second win. The SF90 was almost identical in speed and time, clocking 9.361 seconds at the speed of 147.96 mph (238.12 km/h). Consistent performance was also achieved by the SF90, which ran 9.592 seconds at 147.05 mph (236.65 kph). Although both cars started at the same time, the final race was very similar to races three through four. The Tesla was still faster than the Ferrari, clocking 9.386 seconds at the speed of 149.58 mph (246.73 km/h), and 9.619 seconds at the speed of 146.35mph (2235.53 km/h). Hybrids can be a threat to traditional gas-powered cars, while EVs may outperform them in terms of performance.
