It was just a narrow defeat of the Alpine A110.
The Jaguar I-Pace won the 2019 European Car of the Year Award at the Geneva Motor Show. This is the first award for the British automaker. The brand’s electric crossover was actually tied with the Alpine, each receiving 250 points. Because more voters ranked the Jag higher than the Alpine, the overall winner was the Jag. With 247 and 335 points, the Kia Ceed was second and third, respectively.
Ralf Speth, Jaguar CEO, said that the honour was a great source of pride for him and his team.
It’s possible that European Car of the Year is not the I-Pace’s final trophy, but it’s still among the finalists for World Car of the Year. The electric crossover was also up to the North American Utility of the Year award, but the Jag lost out to the Kona EV and Hyundai Kona. The EV received 55 awards worldwide since its launch, , including the UK Car Of The Year.
Jaguar’s entry in the premium electric crossover market is the I-Pace. It competes with vehicles such as the Tesla Model X or the Audi E-Tron. Two electric motors, one for each axle, produce 394 horsepower (294 Kilowatts) as well as 512 pound-feet (694 Newton-meters) of torque. The EV can travel 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds. A 90-kilowatt-hour charge gives the EV a range of 234 miles (377 kilometers) according to the EPA.
