Honda sources have confirmed that the CR-Z will be receiving an entirely new generation within two years.
Honda pulled the current-gen CRZ-Z from Europe last summer. also pulled it from Australia at the start of the year. Although it’s still accessible in the United States, we don’t think it will be long before the US-spec version is also discontinued. The US-spec version is already out of stock. According to Honda’s R&D centre in Tochigi Prefecture in Japan, a second generation of the Honda Cr-Z is being developed and will be “a force to reckon” with.
The current CR-Z model is based on a modified Jazz. However, the new model will use the same platform and a shorter wheelbase than the next generation Civic. It will likely be slightly larger than the current model, and it should have a design inspired by the Civic Type R or NSX.
The Civic Type R’s 2.0-liter four cylinder engine, which is tuned for this application should produce around 286 HP (210kW). According to the report, Honda may sell the car as a hotter coupe version of the US-spec Civic. It could even adopt the “Civic CR-Z” nameplate.
The JDM version will likely get a hybrid powertrain, which includes a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, a motor with an electric motor, and an eight-speed auto transmission. This is in contrast to the international model, which will be conventionally-powered. Although the output of this version is expected to be 201 HP (150kW), nothing is yet official.
