Camaro SS, the iconic Camaro, is back on sale
The all-new Chevrolet Camaro SS has returned to dealer showrooms after a seven-year absence. The Camaro SS offers two 6.2-liter V8 engine options, the L99 for automatic-equipped cars and the LS3 for manual-equipped models. Both engines are derived the Corvette’s LS3 engine. The 90-degree V-8 features an aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners and aluminum cylinder heads.
The engine’s bottom includes a new cast aluminum oil pan with a capacity of 8.9 quarts (8.5 L). The two-valve cylinder heads are based on race-proven airflow dynamics. The intake and exhaust valves measure 2.16 inches (52.5 mm) each.
The L99’s horsepower is 400 (298 Kilowatts) at 5,900 RPM and torque is 410 pound (556 Newton-meters), at 4,300 RPM. The LS3 produces 426 hp (318 kW), and 420 lb.ft. (569 Nm). The output of the L99 is slightly lower than that of the LS3 due to a lower compression ratio (10.4 vs 10.7:1) as well as design features of Active Fuel Management System. The L99 can only be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Tremec TR 6060 six speed manual for the SS model is made to handle the LS3’s high torque characteristics. It has shorter throws, smoother gear synchronization, and a greater shift feel. It features a solid, 290mm flywheel with single-plate clutch. The final drive ratio of LS3 vehicles are 3.45:1.
The Camaro 2010 is built with fully independent rear and front suspensions. Camaro’s first independent rear suspension, the standard, is unique and designed to be competitive with the best around the world. It is a 4.5-link system with a unique L-shaped upper control arm, which attaches at one end to the knuckle and includes a ride bushing at the rear.
