The launch of the seventh-generation Nissan Patrol was held in Abu Dhabi this weekend. The four-wheel-drive SUV will be based on the same platform that the 2011 InfinitiQX56 and is expected to sell approximately 20,000 units each year in its fifth decade of Middle East sales.
Carlos Ghosn, Renault/Nissan’s chief executive, unveiled the car at the Emirates Palace Hotel. He spoke about the car’s past, saying, “We know its needs, and we also know its climate.”
The company wants to make the SUV a “Hero of All Terrain” because it is capable of off-roading. The 5.6-liter V8 direct injection petrol engine produces up to 400 horsepower and 560 Nm torque. It is coupled to a seven speed automatic transmission.
Ghosn stated that “We are sensitive about the loyalty of Patrol owners so our engineers have been meticulous in crafting this model.” Designers didn’t hesitate to change certain aspects, however. The exterior design was softened by changing the front grille.
They tried to provide more comfort and space inside. The interior features leather, aluminum, and wood grain. The package includes wider seats in the front and more legroom for passengers in second- or third row.
The 2010 Nissan Patrol should soon be available. In some markets, it will be available as the Nissan Safari. The press release contains more information about the model.
