BMW, get on board. We won’t wait.
BMW has a new 8 series and is now very close to launching a supercar. The beautiful coupe isn’t a supercar. Fans around the globe have been asking the exact same question. BMW would consider making a supercar similar to the M1?
Klaus Frolich (board member of BMW development), commented in an interview to Australian journalists, “That’s hard for me because I am a guy who likes cars.” “Personallly, once in my lifetime, I would love to build a supercar. I’m optimistic and looking forward to the future and have not lost heart.
Frolich is open to the possibility of an even more radical automaker, though that’s not something we can confirm. He is actually the second highest-ranking official of the brand to voice his desire for a modern-day M1. We heard Jozef Kaban, who was a member of the BMW design team and moved from Volkswagen Group in 2017 to say that a BMW supercar would make a great idea.
The company’s portfolio includes the BMW i8, which is very similar in its concept to hybrid hypercars such as the McLaren P1 or the likes. Frolich believes that this is a good starting point.
“I have a fantastic carbon-fiber chassis for an sports car that I am using in an i8. It would be great to have something similar with more power, it would be available in the 600 horsepower range very soon and it won’t weigh two tons.
Do not set your sights too high, there is always a business case for the success of a new model. This will be a difficult task given the size of the supercar market.
