Albert Biermann, BMW’s head of product development, says M division has everything it needs to build its own car.
BMW’s M division has the ability to build its own car.
Albert Biermann, head for BMW product development, stated that while the automaker would love to see the M Division make its own car, it is more important to create a model that is financially viable.
Biermann says, “From an engineering standpoint we have the skillsets and we would love to do it.” We’ve had several discussions about it, but we have never been able make the business case. All we do must make money.
Rival Mercedes Benz’s AMG division has recently developed its own model, the AMG.
Biermann stated that turbo technology was progressing so fast that BMW was close to matching the response times of naturally-aspirated engines.
Although he didn’t rule out a future M-car diesel, he said that the horsepower wars were over.
“We can’t just keep adding power. M is not about selling horsepower. That’s not our purpose.
