According to a new report, BMW still has plans for the X2 model. It is currently scheduled for a 2017 market launch.
The second generation BMW X1 will arrive in the latter half of 2015 or the beginning of 2016. It will be a little smaller than the current model to make room for the X3. The X2, a rumored derivative of the X1, will fill in the gap. It will be sportier than the X1 and follow the same philosophy as the X6 and the upcoming X4.
The second-gen X1’s engine lineup will continue to include transversely mounted 3- and 4-cylinder direct injection gasoline engines and common-rail diesel engines with capacities ranging from 1.5 to 2.0 Liters. These motors can be coupled to either a 6-speed manual gearbox, or an optional 8-speed automatic transmission that sends output to both axles. Reports also mention M Performance versions of the X1 or X2, which will be powered by a four-cylinder gasoline engine.
