“The great American muscle cars have returned”
At the newly revived US muscle Car Wars, the Corvette ZR1, also known as Blue Devil, was the star of the show. The 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR was up against the 2008 Dodge Challenger Job #1, the Corvette ZR1 and the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR. The three cars sold for almost 2 million dollars each, with the ZR1 accounting for nearly half of it!
Barrett-Jackson CEO/Chairman Craig Jackson said, “The great American muscle cars have returned.” “With cars like these, Detroit was a stronghold in automotive performance and power during the 1960s and early 1970s. We are thrilled that Barrett-Jackson was able to provide the platform for these incredible vehicles’ rebirth.”
Jay Leno, an avid car collector and host on the Tonight Show, drove the ZR1 around the block. Along with the car, the highest bidder also purchased a three-day driving class with Ron Fellows as well as a private tour of Jay’s garage.
The Corvette ZR1 car is the fastest GM has ever made. The 6.2 liter LS9 V8 engine powers the ‘Vette. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and dual-disc clutch to deliver 620 horsepower. The ‘Vette can reach 60 mph in four seconds from standstill, while its top speed is more than 200 mph. To bring the supercar back to a halt, big Brembo brakes are located behind the front 19-inch wheels and rear 20-inch wheels.
