Flamethrower Car, Russia, You Guess It

We are curious to see how it all works.

Sometimes, a video that we cannot explain turns up is compelling enough to share. This clip is one of those. Although it isn’t easy to find the backstory online, it’s still interesting to see a car with flamethrowers in its headlights. The clip begins with a man entering what appears to be a very normal Lada2106. The camera cuts to wide shots as he gets in. The unexpected happens when the tiny sedan releases two flames from the outer headlight bezels. The fire seems to reach at least 20 feet away from the vehicle.

This isn’t something that happens once. You can have the fire lit multiple times or keep the flames going. It is not known how this system works. In military applications, traditional flamethrowers often use a pressurized tank to send the combustible fuel through the device and ignite it as it leaves.

Although we only have a glimpse inside, there isn’t any sign of extra equipment, including all the tanks required for a flamethrower. All of the gear is underneath the hood. The clip contains a sound that sounds like a pump. This could be the engine that propels the fuel from the nozzles to the headlight bezels. Engineering-wise, the stunt is quite interesting because the builders were able to integrate the functional flamethrowers in the empty headlight openings. This thing is useless in the real world. These flamethrowers would only be activated by a monster on the road.
